How Unspoken Language Services collects, uses, shares and protects personal information across our website, portals and services.

Effective date: October 3, 2026
Last updated: October 3, 2026

Unspoken Language Services, Inc. ("Unspoken", "ULS", "we", "us" or "our") provides American Sign Language interpreting and related language access services to organizations nationwide. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, retain and protect personal information when you visit unspokenasl.com, use our client or interpreter portals, contact us, apply to work with us, or otherwise interact with us (together, our "Services"). By using our Services, you acknowledge this Privacy Policy.

At a glance

  • We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for targeted advertising.
  • Every interpreting assignment is performed by a qualified human interpreter. We use artificial intelligence only to support our staff, never to interpret, and never to make significant decisions about you without human review.
  • Information about the people we serve at an assignment is kept confidential and used only to arrange and deliver that service.
  • Our interpreters are bound by professional codes of conduct that require strict confidentiality.
  • Mobile numbers and text messaging consent are never shared with third parties for their marketing.
  • You may ask us to access, correct or delete your information, subject to the obligations described below.

Scope of this policy

This policy applies to personal information we handle for our own purposes. It does not apply to information we process on behalf of a client organization under a service agreement, such as details about a patient, student, employee or other participant at an interpreting assignment. We handle that information as the client's service provider, under our agreement with the client and applicable law, and requests about it should be directed to that organization. This policy also does not apply to third-party websites or services that we link to or embed, which are governed by their own policies.

Information we collect

Information you provide. Depending on how you interact with us, this may include:

  • Contact and organization details, such as your name, title, organization, work email, phone number, billing contact and mailing address.
  • Interpreting request details, such as the date, time, location or meeting link, the nature of the assignment, preferred interpreter qualifications and communication preferences, and, where you choose to provide them, the names of participants and preparation materials.
  • Account information for the client and interpreter portals, such as login credentials and account preferences.
  • Application and onboarding information from interpreters, such as your resume, certifications and credential numbers, digital badges, licenses, insurance documents, rates, availability, background check results you choose to provide, and identification documents.
  • Billing and payment information, such as invoices, purchase order numbers and remittance details. If you pay online, your card details are collected and processed by our payment processor, and we do not store full card numbers.
  • Communications, including emails, text messages, form submissions, feedback, accessibility reports and comments on our Knowledge Center articles.

Information collected automatically. When you use our website, our systems receive standard technical information, such as your IP address, browser type, device information, the pages you request and the date and time of your visit. We use this information to deliver and secure the website, prevent fraud and abuse, and understand how the site is used in aggregate. Our use of cookies and similar technologies is described in "Cookies and your privacy choices" at the end of this policy.

Approximate location. When you have not selected a state in the Knowledge Center, the articles shown may reflect the state associated with your internet address, determined with IP Geolocation by DB-IP. This estimate is made at the time of your visit, is not stored by us, can be changed on the page at any time, and is not made when your browser sends a Do Not Track signal.

Information from other sources. We may receive information from our client organizations (for example, when they request services or add authorized users), from interpreters and team members, from credential and certification registries and verification services, from background screening providers you authorize, from references you provide, and from publicly available sources, such as professional registries, business directories and organization websites, which we use to identify and contact interpreters and organizations that may benefit from our services.

How we use information

  • To provide, arrange, schedule, confirm and deliver interpreting and related services, including matching interpreters to assignments.
  • To create and administer client and interpreter accounts and to complete vendor setup for clients.
  • To review applications, verify credentials, onboard interpreters, assign work and pay for completed assignments.
  • To invoice, collect payment and maintain financial and tax records.
  • To communicate with you about requests, assignments, accounts and inquiries, including by email, phone and text message.
  • To send business contacts information about our services, with the option to opt out at any time.
  • To maintain service quality, train our team, handle feedback and resolve complaints.
  • To operate, secure and improve our website and systems, including detecting and preventing spam, fraud, abuse and security incidents.
  • To comply with law, respond to lawful requests, enforce our agreements, and establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
  • For any other purpose we describe when the information is collected, or with your consent.

We may also create aggregated or de-identified information that does not identify any person, and use it for any lawful purpose, such as measuring fulfillment rates and service quality.

Artificial intelligence

We use artificial intelligence tools within our own systems to help our team work efficiently and respond promptly. For example, AI may suggest a draft of a message that a staff member reviews, edits and sends, and an assistant in the interpreter portal may answer an interpreter's questions about their own assignments and our procedures, referring anything it should not answer to our staff. Automated tools also help screen website submissions for spam, abuse and security threats.

  • AI is never used to perform interpreting. Every interpreting assignment is performed by a qualified human interpreter.
  • AI does not make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about you, such as hiring decisions, without meaningful human review.
  • We send AI providers only the information a task requires, and we use providers whose commercial terms do not permit them to use our information to train their models.
  • We do not use your personal information to train artificial intelligence models.
  • Messages drafted with the help of AI are reviewed by our staff before they are sent on our behalf. Answers from the interpreter portal assistant are informational and may be confirmed with our staff at any time.

How we disclose information

  • Interpreters and team members. We share assignment details with the interpreters assigned to a request, limited to what they need to prepare for and perform the work.
  • Client organizations. We share interpreter names, qualifications and assignment records with the client organizations they serve, and account and service information with authorized users of a client account.
  • Service providers. We use vendors that process information on our behalf under contractual obligations to protect it and to use it only to provide services to us. These include providers of hosting, email, text messaging, electronic signature, payment processing, accounting, mapping and address verification, credential verification, security and artificial intelligence services.
  • Legal and safety. We may disclose information when we believe in good faith that it is required by law, subpoena or other legal process, or necessary to protect the rights, property or safety of Unspoken, our clients, our interpreters, the people we serve or others, including to prevent fraud.
  • Business transfers. Information may be transferred as part of a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, sale of assets or similar transaction, and it will remain subject to protections consistent with this policy.
  • With your consent or at your direction. We disclose information when you ask us to or agree that we may.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising (targeted advertising). We have not done either in the past twelve months, and we do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of anyone under 16.

Text messages

If you provide a mobile number, we may send text messages about requests, assignments, scheduling and your account. Message frequency varies, and message and data rates may apply. You can opt out at any time by replying STOP, or reply HELP for assistance. Mobile phone numbers, text messaging opt-in data and consent are never sold or shared with third parties or affiliates for their marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging information is shared only with the providers that deliver our messages.

Healthcare, education and other confidential settings

Our interpreters regularly work in medical, mental health, legal, educational and employment settings. They are bound by the NAD-RID Code of Professional Conduct and our confidentiality requirements, and they may not disclose information learned during an assignment. When we provide services to a healthcare organization covered by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), we handle protected health information as permitted by HIPAA and any business associate agreement in place. When we provide services to an educational institution, we handle student information as directed by the institution and as permitted by applicable law, including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) where it applies.

Your choices

  • Marketing communications. You may opt out of marketing emails at any time by using the unsubscribe link in the email or by contacting us. Messages about your requests, assignments, account or invoices will continue while you have a relationship with us.
  • Text messages. Reply STOP to any text message to stop receiving them.
  • Cookies. Use Cookie Preferences at the bottom of any page.
  • Account information. Clients and interpreters may review and update certain information in their portal, or by contacting us.

Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live and whether a particular law applies to us, you may have the right to know or access the personal information we hold about you and how we use and disclose it; to receive a copy in a portable format; to correct inaccurate information; to delete information; and to opt out of the sale of personal information, targeted advertising and certain profiling. We do not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising, and we do not use sensitive personal information for purposes that would require offering a right to limit its use.

To make a request, email contact@unspokenasl.com or call 1-888-280-0751. We will verify your identity before responding, using information we already hold, and we may ask for additional information for that purpose. You may use an authorized agent, who must provide proof of authority. We respond within the time required by applicable law, generally within 45 days, and we will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.

Some requests may be limited by law. For example, we may retain information we are required to keep for tax, accounting, employment, contractual or legal reasons, or information needed to complete a service, prevent fraud or defend legal claims. If we decline a request, we will explain why. Where the law provides a right to appeal, you may appeal by replying to our decision, and if your appeal is denied, you may contact the attorney general of your state.

California residents. California's "Shine the Light" law permits California residents to request information about disclosures of personal information to third parties for their direct marketing purposes. We do not make such disclosures.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control. When your browser sends a Do Not Track signal, our website does not count your visit and does not estimate your location. When your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a request to opt out of optional cookies and of any sale or sharing of personal information.

Data security

We use administrative, technical and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information, including encrypted connections, access limited to personnel with a business need, additional encryption for sensitive fields, and confidentiality obligations for our staff and interpreters. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please do not send unnecessary sensitive information, such as health details or government identification numbers, through website forms, email or public comments. If we become aware of a security incident affecting your personal information, we will notify you as required by applicable law. You are responsible for keeping your portal credentials confidential and for telling us promptly of any unauthorized use.

Data retention

We keep personal information for as long as needed for the purposes described in this policy, including to provide services, maintain business, financial and tax records, meet contractual and legal obligations, resolve disputes and enforce our agreements. Retention periods depend on the type of information and the reason we hold it. When information is no longer needed, we delete it, de-identify it or dispose of it securely. Applications that do not lead to an engagement may be kept for future opportunities unless you ask us to delete them.

Children

Our website and portals are intended for adults and organizations and are not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information online from children under 13. Information about minors that a school, healthcare provider or other client organization gives us to arrange services is handled under that organization's direction and applicable law. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us online, please contact us and we will delete it.

Location of processing

We are based in the United States, and we process and store information in the United States. If you access our Services from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to, processed and stored in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those of your jurisdiction.

Third-party websites and services

Our website links to and embeds content from third parties, such as video platforms, and our services may connect to platforms you choose to use, such as video meeting services. Those third parties are responsible for their own privacy practices, and we encourage you to review their policies.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, our Services or the law. We will post the updated policy on this page and revise the "Last updated" date above. If we make material changes, we will provide additional notice, such as a notice on our website or an email to clients and interpreters with active accounts. Your continued use of our Services after an update takes effect means you acknowledge the updated policy. Earlier versions are available on request.

Cookies and your privacy choices

This website uses a small number of cookies and similar browser storage. When you first visit, we ask for your choice, and you can change it at any time with Cookie Preferences at the bottom of every page.

  • Essential. Needed for the website to work and to keep it secure: protecting the forms you submit, keeping you signed in to the client or interpreter portal, and remembering choices you make on this site, such as a notice you have closed, the state you chose in the Knowledge Center, and your cookie choices. These cannot be switched off.
  • Analytics. An anonymous count of page views. It sets no cookie and stores nothing that identifies you: only the date, the page and a number. While you read, the pages you visit are kept in your browser tab only, and are sent to us only if you submit a form, so that we know which pages were helpful. Visits are not counted if you decline analytics, or if your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal.
  • Embedded videos. Some pages include videos from YouTube or Vimeo. Those services may set their own cookies when a video loads. Videos load only if you allow embedded videos, or when you choose to play one.

The typeface used on this website is delivered by Google Fonts, which receives your device's internet address in order to deliver it; it does not set cookies. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, and we do not sell your personal information or share it for targeted advertising.

Your choices

Accept all allows analytics and embedded videos. Decline, or closing the notice, keeps only essential cookies. Your choice is saved in this browser on this device for twelve months, after which we ask again; clearing your browser's cookies also clears it. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a request to opt out of optional cookies. To exercise the other privacy rights described in this policy, contact us using the details on our contact page.
