According to FIFA, more than 70 million Deaf and Hard of Hearing people were able to enjoy the 2018 FIFA World Cup held in Russia. All 64 match recordings were reproduced in a Sign Language to ensure that every fan had access to this amazing experience. This is an indication that the Deaf Community is becoming more recognized in the world of sports.

Unfortunately, there is still a lot to be done especially in stadiums where live events take place. There are some stadiums and arenas to note that have invested in accessibility facilities for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. A few to be honored are listed in this article and are to be visited should you ever embark on travels around the world.

Mercedes-Benz Superdome

This dome arena located in New Orleans, Louisana offers complimentary listening devices and language interpretation services. Sign language interpreting services are available with an advanced 30-day notice.

O2 Arena

Known for hosting tennis matches and concerts, the O2 Arena located in London, UK offers British Sign Language (BSL) interpretation services for any event with advanced accessibility arrangments prior to the scheduled event.

Madison Square Garden

Located in New York, this arena is best known for its basketball tournaments, hockey, and concert events. Its accessibility consists of complimentary Assisted Listening Devices for Hard of Hearing guests. A simple process of visiting the Guest Experience Podium upon the start of the event for further coordination is encouraged.

Nou Camp

This stadium located in Barcelona, Spain provides videos subtitled and interpreted in Sign Language. In addition, their videos are available to stream on the FC Barcelona Signs channel and their YouTube channel: FC Barcelona.

Accessibility rights have been a huge topic in recent years. More lawsuits are filed by Deaf people who now understand their individual rights as a consumer and persons with invisible abilities. As a result of the Community speaking up, stadiums and venues are making adjustments for more inclusion.

Whichever stadium you decide to visit, know that you have rights to any accessibility features the stadium may offer. If you are unsure of what they offer, always call ahead of time to understand which methods are available to you.
